Belfry in wood?

BELFRY. A Cebuano who claims to hold a Master Carpenter's Degree told a group of civil engineering students that in his opinion it would take a long time and a lot of money to reconstruct the belfry of the Basilica del Sto. Niño that was demolished by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake. He suggested that the belfry be reconstructed but not in cement or concrete but in hardwood.

RESISTANT. The self-styled Master Carpenter said a wooden belfry can be more resistant to natural calamities, including earthquake, than the kind of concrete used by the Spaniards in all the churches they built in the Philippines. "Ug makadani sab og mga turista," he said.
