SONAmabitch!

As I write this, there's trouble in Manila as PNoy is delivering his SONA (July 22). I'm tempted to scream: “SONAmabitch!”

I was invited to be a judge in a “Mr. Handsome” contest. I had to decline. First, because of my state of health. Second because when the invitation came I was listening to a song on the radio that said: “Dili tanan laki guwapo, dili tanan guwapo laki.”

There's so much fuss about Mali, the ailing elephant. Many are making a big deal over this elephant.

It says here that a man was killed over P5 in a hantak. Someone got killed over a measly P5, yet the winner of the P88 million lotto jackpot hasn't cared about his huge winning.

Going back to Mali, the elephant, some people including actress Marian Rivera and actor Dingdong Dantes want Mali to be freed. If Mali is freed, can he fend for himself in the jungle amid the harsh vagaries of nature, especially these days when typhoons come and go?

It seems that the floods are getting worse and unstoppable. Many Asian cities have practically thrown in the proverbial towel. Officials, I read somewhere, are now letting the floods come as they give their citizens ample protection from getting drowned.

In Japan and South Korea, it says here, some cities are equipping their citizens with life vests and life rafts and even rowboats. “Since they can't fight nature's floods,” says a journalist, “the officials are now just doing something to protect the lives of the people from these floods.”

OVERHEARD. Some college students talking about the anti-PNoy rally during the President's SONA said that this anti-SONA rally (last July 22) is not news. Someone remarked: “There's always a Tuta ng Kano in every rally against the President.” Said another: “Asyuso kaayo ning Tuta ng Kano. Anha gyud puyo sa Palasyo.”
