Guard found dead inside classroom

CEBU, Philippines - Police are still investigating the case of a 49-year-old security guard who was found dead inside a classroom in Buaya Elementary School in Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City around 6:30 a.m. on January 26.

The body was identified as that of Jocinto Flores, resident of Barangay Caban-og, Toledo City, and working as a security guard from Black Arrow Security Agency, said Police Officer 3 Jerson Alparito, homicide investigator of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

Alparito said based on their investigation, the security guard’s body was initially found by a teacher named Cherielen Ancajas, who reportedly went to the Grade 1 classroom early that day.

Some of the stay-in construction workers told police that they last saw Flores around 11 p.m. last January 25, doing rounds within the public school.

As Ancajas found the guard lifeless near the teacher’s table, she immediately called help from school officials and they eventually called the Emergency and Rescue Unit Foundation for assistance.

Alparito said Flores sustained an injury at the back of his head near his left ear, but they cannot determine if another person was involved in his death or if the wound was a result of him falling to the ground.

Police have also yet to get access to the health records of the security guard.

Flores was sent to Lapu-Lapu City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Police recovered from the crime scene the victim’s mobile phone still attached to a USB cable, a lighter and a wrist watch.

In a recent report, two other security guards were gunned down by two unidentified suspects onboard a motorcycle at the entrance of Mactan-Cebu International Airport in Barangay Pusok of the same city.

Victims were identified as Samuel Lamoste, 36, of Barangay Canjulao and Roweno Moncada, 23, of Barangay Pusok, both are employed at VDS Security Agency.

LCPO’s Senior Police Officer 2 Manolito Abellanosa said the victims are in stable condition but still confined in the hospital for further medical attention. Police are still hunting down the guards’ assailants.  (FREEMAN)
