Librarian, female cop robbed in Talisay

CEBU, Philippines – A librarian was robbed by three unidentified men riding a motorcycle in the South Road Properties (SRP) in Barangay San Isidro, Talisay City the other night.

The victim was identified by the police as Marites Ybanez, 39, married, resident of said place.

Based on the police blotter, the victim was on his way home walking when three suspects onboard on a motorcycle stopped close to her, and then the two back riders disembarked.

Ybanez said the suspects approached the victim and suddenly grabbed her bag. Due to her fear she ran away while the suspects, who suceeded, went back to the motorcycle and fled.

The bag contained the victim's mini Ipad worth P12,000; wi-fi modem worth P1,500;IDs and other documents and valuables.

Authorities conducted a follow-up chase but failed to locate the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man was arrested for reportedly stealing cellphone owned by a policewoman in Barangay Pooc, Talisay City yesterday dawn.

Mary Joylyn Mahilun, 38, a police officer assigned at Regional Intelligence Branch  of the Police Regional Office (PRO-7) and a resident of Sitio Paglaum, Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City, were then having a night swimming with family and relatives when the incident happened.

Mahilun told the police that they took their rest in a tent put up by the seashore when suspect later identified as Marvin Lastimado, 20, single, a resident of Barangay Pooc, Talisay City, took the cellphone owned by Mahilun worth P10,000.

Fortunately, the victim noticed the act and immediately held the suspect.

Mahilun recovered her cellular phone and seized one kitchen knife and drug paraphernalia from the suspect's possession.

The suspect was brought to Talisay City Police Station and placed behind bars waiting for appropriate charges to be filed against him. (FREEMAN)
