CEBU, Philippines - At least 1,000 persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Talisay City will be receiving P500 each in assistance this year. .
This was decided during the City Council’s session, where Councilor Socrates Fernandez, chairman of the committee on social services, authored a resolution granting the benefit, with funds to be taken from the PWDs’ group budget.
Councilor Dennis Basillote initially questioned the amount, proposing instead for P2,000, while Councilor Valeriano Ylanan proposed for P1,000.
Fernandez however told the Council it would be set first at P500 considering that there are other uses of the PWD’s fund. Eight of the councilors subsequently voted for the Fernandez proposal.
Niel Lasquites, president of PWDs group, thanked the Council, which in turn said it will try its best to raise the amount next year. (FREEMAN)
