CEBU, Philippines – Talisay City Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante plans to relocate the residents in coastal areas who are vulnerable during bad weather.
He said the problem has never been given a concrete solution and continues to hound those who live near the coastal areas.
"Nagbalik-balik ra gyud ni nga problema labi na og muabot ang bati nga panahon," Villarante said.
Villarante suggested to act on the problem through a long-term plan.
He said it is not necessary to relocate the residents far from the shores since their daily living is to catch fish. He said that a two to three-storey housing plan could solve the problem, but before implementing such plan, he said, the city should coordinate with the provincial development office and the Mega Cebu officials so that the city could save financial resources.
He added tapping these institutions will help fast-track and give concrete solution to the problem.
"Ang nakanindot kay pulido ang proyekto nga dili mausik ang panudlanan sa syudad kay pwede man pud ta mangayo og subsidy sa provincial and national government," Villarante said.
Early this week, roofs of the houses of residents in Sitio Litmon, Barangay Poblacion, Talisay City were flown away by strong winds associated with typhoon Lando. Residents are asking for assistance and a long-term plan for their relocation. (FREEMAN)
