CEBU, Philippines - A retired two-star general will be throwing his hat in the political ring come May 2016 elections as he aims to get a seat in the town council of Minglanilla.
Alexander Abadinas, who will run under the ticket of reelectionist Mayor Lani Peña, will complete the slate of Alayon Party in the town, said Cebu first district Rep. Gerald Anthony "Samsam" Gullas.
"Abadinas is an outstanding Minglanillahanon grand awardee. He is the first Cebuano to be promoted to a one-star rank among all Philippine National Police Academy graduates of the country," Gullas said.
Gullas described Abadinas is "a rare breed of a gentleman with a star on his shoulders, but has remained humble and unassuming."
Before he retired last March, Abadinas is the commanding general of the Internal Affairs Services of the Philippine National Police. He is a product of the then Minglanilla Gullas High School, which is now the University of the Visayas-Minglanilla campus.
Yesterday, the Alayon Party announced that Peña will be seeking reelection as mayor with incumbent Vice Mayor Roberty John "Jojo" Selma, son of former Minglanilla mayor and incumbent municipal councilor Eduardo Ma. Selma, as his running mate.
Completing the lineup of Alayon councilor candidates in the town are Jimmy Caumeran, Roy Nacario, Jhong Adlawan, Jerry Canares, Edwin Quiapo, Prose Laput and Dodong Getuaban. (FREEMAN)
