Insurance for traffic enforcers proposed

CEBU, Philippines - Councilor Valeriano Ylanan had pushed for the granting of personal accident insurance to each personnel of the City of Talisay-Traffic Operation Development Authority.

Ylanan, newly designated head of the CT-TODA, said the accident insurance coverage will protect the families and dependents of the traffic enforcers in case something untoward happens to the latter while discharging their duties.

"The CT-TODA personnel are assigned in the field, streets and in critical areas to handle a critical job of traffic enforcement in the city. They are vulnerable to a clash with hot-tempered or hard-headed motorists," thus the need for them to be covered with insurance, Ylanan said in his proposed resolution.

A traffic enforcer might be a victim of road accidents or a hit-and-run, and they may be killed while on duty. Besides they experience every day noise and health pollution, which could affect their health," said Ylanan. "Their work is very risky. They are prone to accidents and illness."

Ylanan asked Mayor Johnny de los Reyes to consider his suggestion and order the conduct of a study on ways of acquiring personal accident insurance for CT-TODA personnel the soonest time possible. - RAE (FREEMAN)
