CEBU, Philippines - The on-going concreting of road and drainage improvement projects, along A.S. Fortuna Street in Barangay Bakilid, is expected to be completed only after the Mandaue City fiesta celebration on May 8.
Engineer Reymond Catalunia, a project inspector of the Department of Public Works and Highways-Region 7, said the projects that were started last February 15, will be done by May 26.
Catalunia admitted there have been delays in the completion of both projects because works, during day time, have to be shortened due to heavy volume of vehicles along the street.
Workers also have to move the big water pipes of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District to safer ground to avoid inflicting damage on these, he said, adding that they tried not to hit cable wires of the Visayas Electric Company and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, so as not to disrupt their respective services.
It was also necessary to dig the roadsides for water catchments to avoid overflowing that had been the cause of heavy floods in the area during the rainy season, he said.
Catalunia however assured the public that when all the box culverts are in place the workers will have to double time in working to meet the target completion date of May 26. —/RAE (FREEMAN)
