Cop shoots buy-bust subject who resisted

CEBU, Philippines - A man was wounded after the police shot him when he allegedly tried to resist arrest during a buy-bust operation Wednesday evening in Sitio Datag, Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City.

Police Senior Inspector Verniño Noserale, chief of the City Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group, said they arrested Bebot Godinez, 44, after he handed a pack of suspected shabu to a police poseur buyer.

During the consummation of the transaction, Godinez allegedly sensed that there was something wrong with the sale.

Police said he tried to pull out a gun tucked on his waist, but even before he could do so, one of the arresting officers fired at Godinez, hitting him in his left shoulder.  At least 37 small packs and one medium pack of suspected shabu were seized from Godinez.

Based on the Dangerous Drugs Board valuation, the confiscated items had an estimated value of P100,000, according to Noserale.

Aside from the illegal drugs, police also confiscated from Godinez cash worth P1,170 believed to be proceeds of his illegal trade and the P200 buy-bust money.

Police also took the .45 colt caliber pistol from the suspect’s possession, together with its bullet storage loaded with six live ammunitions and his blue Kawasaki motorcycle with temporary plate number 7AT-140714.

Noserale said the suspect will be facing charges of violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and illegal possession of firearms.  (FREEMAN)
