CEBU, Philippines – A 22-year-old Papua New Guinea national was wounded yesterday dawn after he was shot when he allegedly refused to give money to unidentified assailants in Sitio Kagudoy, Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City.
Emanuel Aloko, who temporarily resides at Vista Bella Subdivision in the barangay, was drinking with his friend Goiya Aglua, also a Papuan, when the former excused himself to buy some cigarettes in a nearby store.
When Aloko reached a dark area, two men allegedly appeared and asked him to give them money.
Aloko, who never knew the men talking to him, refused to give money to them, according to Police Officer 2 Jerson Alparito of Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.
After the foreign national declined their sudden request, one of the suspects then pulled out an unidentified caliber of firearm and fired at Aloko once, hitting the lower back portion of his body.
The suspects then reportedly fled from the scene, evading the responding police officers of Basak Police Station 4 while the victim managed to run and seek help.
PO2 Alparito said the victim was immediately rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for medical treatment.
Police will be conducting a follow-up investigation for possible arrest of the suspects.
