Liloan wins big in Capitol contests

CEBU, Philippines – The Municipality of Liloan bagged major awards at Our Cebu Program of the Province of Cebu and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. for the year 2014.

Liloan Municipal Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco personally received the award during the awarding ceremony held recently.

The town of Liloan received the awards for Most Exemplary Local Government Unit, second place as Most Outstanding Local Government Unit in Cebu in Good Governance and Green Champion Local Government Unit in Cebu.

The awards were based on the accomplishments of the municipal government of Liloan in the implementation of projects to benefit the people with transparency.

Mayor Frasco expressed his thanks to the town officials, department heads, employees, barangay officials and the people of Liloan for their support to his administration.

Without them, Mayor Frasco said the municipality of Liloan will not make it and receive the awards.

Mayor Frasco, whose term will end by 2016, introduced “big changes” in the town of Liloan since he assumed office in 2007.

The purok system adopted by the town of Liloan under Mayor Frasco’s term also played a big role in the town’s clean and green program.

The Our Cebu Program is a public-private partnership initiated by the Cebu Provincial Government and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc.

With a vision to make Cebu a model province, Our Cebu program will capacitate Cebu’s 52 towns and cities and is a concrete manifestation of collaboration geared towards putting Cebu on the map as an ideal place to live, work, play, invest, and do business.

Initiated by the Cebu Provincial Government and RAFI, the Our Cebu program is a five-year development program designed to strengthen the governance systems and structures of local government units, thereby improving livability and access to basic services, greening and protection of the natural environment, promoting Cebu’s ecotourism, and developing the sense of pride among the Cebuanos through the understanding of their culture and heritage.

Both the Cebu provincial government and RAFI believe that communities can be productive and self-reliant through the collaboration of stakeholders who share the same vision.

The comprehensive framework of the program has encouraged the cities and municipalities of Cebu to improve their performance and governance systems and structures, and further develop their municipalities and cities.
