CEBU, Philippines - Beach resort and hotel owners in the different barangays in Lapu-Lapu City complained on the dumping of waste at vacant lots near their establishments.
The problem was raised by owners and representatives of beach resort and hotels in Lapu-Lapu City during a stakeholders meeting.
Hembler Mendoza, Lapu-Lapu City Tourism head, who attended the meeting assured that the issues and concerns they raised during the meeting will be given immediate attention.
They asked the Lapu-Lapu City Police and representative from the City Environment and Natural Resources Office and the Solid Waste and Managemernt Board to address the problem.
Private vehicles carrying garbage and believed to be coming from Mandaue and Cebu cities reportedly dumped their garbage at vacant lot in Barangay Maribago during the nightime.
The same complaint was also raised by owners of vacant lots in Barangays Marigondon, Mactan, Buaya and Ibo.
The Lapu-Lapu City tourist police assured to conduct checkpoints in the different barangays to ensure the safety of the visitors, especially the tourists.
The checkpoints will include the monitoring of private-owned vehicles bringing waste and dumping them at the vacant lot in the barangay. — Jose P. Sollano (FREEMAN)
