Detainee escapes

CEBU, Philippines – A man who was arrested for illegal possession of firearm was able to escape from Centro Police Station last Sunday morning.

However, he was recaptured an hour after. John Harley Heyrosa, 20, of Barangay Mantuyong, Mandaue City was arrested by the police last November 14 after they noticed during roving that his waist was bulging while he was walking on the street.

During frisking, police were able to seize from his possession a .38 caliber revolver which led to his detention at the Centro Police Station.

However, last Sunday morning at around 7 a.m., Police Officer 3 Victor Isidro who was the desk officer during that time was answering a telephone call from a reporter and failed to notice that the suspect was already tinkering with the cell's padlock and succeeded in destroying it.

It was the other five detainees who then shouted that he was able to escape, prompting PO3 Isidro and two others to chase him.

He was then found hiding under the stairs of the police station and was recaptured.

Centro Police station chief Police Senior Inspector Jimmy Fortes said an investigation is being conducted against Isidro to see if he can be administratively held liable over the incident.
