CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III turned over yesterday two vans worth P3 million to the Association of Barangay Councils in Mandaue City.
The turnover ceremony was done at the Mandaue City Hall grounds wherein Davide handed in a black and a gray Toyota Grandia to Mayor Jonas Cortes and ABC President Ernie Manatad.
In an interview, Manatad said they asked for the said vehicles from the provincial government last year through ABC President Celestino "Tining" Martinez who sits as an ex-officio member of the Provincial Board.
Manatad said they need the said vehicles for their official travels to the different barangays in the city. He added that barangays can also borrow the vehicles whenever they also need them for their activities.
So the vehicles will not be abused, they will be parked at the city motorpool and who ever needs any of them will have to book it at the ABC office before they can avail of the trip ticket.
The said vehicles will be used for the first time today after delegates coming from Dipolog City will arrive to visit Mandaue before they proceed to their adventure camp sponsored by a non-governmental organization in Balamban town.
In June, PB member Arliegh Sitoy turned over the check amounting to P3.3 million to the ABC of Mandaue City. The amount will be used for the purchase of vehicles for the barangays.
Manatad said they have scheduled big activities next month for all barangay captains and they asked financial assistance from Governor Davide, Magpale and Sitoy.
Manatad said both Davide and Magpale approved their request through PB Member Sitoy. Sitoy added he will also allocate funds to support the needs of the barangay captains in Mandaue City.
Sitoy said the provincial government will continue their support to the city of Mandaue while Cortes expressed his thanks to Davide, Magple and Sitoy for their continuing support to the programs of the city government. (FREEMAN)
