CEBU, Philippines- The Talisay City Council yesterday approved a resolution authorizing Mayor Johnny De los Reyes to sign a sisterhood pact with Loma Linda City, California, USA.
The resolution was sponsored by Councilor Socrates Fernandez.
The pact, according to Fernandez, is aimed at strengthening ties between the two cities, fostering mutual friendship and goodwill, nurturing closer relationship among their people, as well as cultural exchanges and economic ties.
"The City of Talisay, Cebu, Philippines is replete with (full of) God-given gifts of natural resources, our clean beaches and hospitable people. This city is known for its growing business, likewise sending professional technical men and women to work in other countries," Fernandez said.
With the approval of the resolution, the council also authorizes Jeremias C. Condes, a prominent and upright resident of Talisay City, to carry city documentary facts, as its emissary because he also has relatives in Loma Linda City.
The Loma Linda, a Spanish phrase for "beautiful hills," is a city in San Bernardino county, California, that was incorporated in 1970. It has a population of 23,261 during the 2010 census up from 2000's 18,681.
In its website, the city says it has been a national center of health and wellness research for decades.
Loma Linda offers residents an alternative to the intense, often anonymous lifestyle characteristic of modern life.
"It is no surprise to find numerous families strolling along the city's tree-lined streets or playing in its numerous parks," the website reads.
