Carcar college gets green light for 5 programs

CEBU, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education-7 has granted Carcar City College the authority to operate and offer five programs, effective academic year 2014-2015.

The authority to operate and to offer programs is contained in CHED-7 Order Nos.3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, series of 2014 dated June 30, 2014. They were issued by regional director Freddie Bernal.

Among the new programs are Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, BS Fisheries, BS Office Administration, Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and AB English Language.

"The authority herein granted shall remain in force and effect as long as the grantee sustains the required standards for the program and the budgetary allocations for its operations are provided for and maintained," the letter read.

The establishment of the college was one of the achievements of Mayor Nicepuro Apura in July 2011 as included in his first State of the City Address. Apura said the city spent P8 million for the running of the college.

In 2011, the city college opened with 391 pioneering students.

It is currently offering degrees in hotel administration, business administration, English and fisheries and agriculture.

In its page on Facebook, the school claims it is mandated under local statutes to ensure that the citizens of Carcar are not deprived of the right to education; to provide and promote globally competitive academic programs with special emphasis in the fields of education, sciences, technology and such other academic and technical-vocational courses in accordance with the needs of the community; and to conduct relevant researches and extension services along these disciplines.
