Group to monitor roadworks

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City government will create its separate monitoring team whose primary function is to monitor the execution of road concreting projects in the city implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

City Mayor Paz Radaza said the road concreting projects implemented in Barangay Basak are nationally funded and implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

However, Radaza said the commuters affected by the ongoing projects are mostly residents of Lapu-Lapu City.

The city mayor said she directed the City Engineering Office to make sure that the contractor implementing the project follows the rules and regulations set by the DPWH.

Radaza said the past experience of the city government when the DPWH implemented the Mactan-Maribago road concreting projects was their basis to be more vigilant this time.

The mayor admitted that her office received several complaints from the riding public, some of them tourists who have bad experience.

" Dili kita gusto nga makasugat gihapon sa susama nga problema ang atong mga kaigsoonan, ilabi na gayud ang mga turista, sa problema sa pagtukod sa atong kadalanan," said Mayor Radaza.

Although, the responsibility of the road concreting projects is with the DPWH, Mayor Radaza said they should assist them since the project is within the city of Lapu-Lapu.

Since last year, the DPWH has implemented the road concreting project of the Mactan Circumferential Road but is not yet finished until now.   (FREEMAN)
