CEBU, Philippines - Hoping to improve delivery of basic services to the residents of the town, the municipality of Consolacion is batting for the establishment of better relationship with the cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu and Cebu.
In a recent resolution passed by the Municipal Council, local legislators authorized Mayor Teresa Alegado to enter into a sisterhood agreement with the three cities.
Vice Mayor Aurelio Damole and members of the council said the ties will be a great help to the town.
The Municipal Council resolution said the sisterhood relationship between the town and three cities will enable residents to get involved in effects that "promote understanding, friendship and goodwill and the participation in the implementation of various activities that are mutually beneficial."
The said resolution further said the local partnership will foster exchange of ideas through correspondence, thus allowing a better understanding of the history, as well as the culture and the arts of, and developments and trends in the partner-local government.
Good relationship with the cities will also be needed for sustainable development, trade and investments, tourism, information technology, human development and also culture and arts, the resolution read.
"Consolacion, though not a city but a city to become and the gateway to the north of the Province of Cebu, sincerely manifests its great appreciation for this sisterhood agreement with the three cities if they accept it," it added.
Since assuming office in 2010, Mayor Alegado said she has been striving to establish friendly ties with local chiefs of different local government units in Metro Cebu.
She said she has also been actively participating in meetings and forums discussing plans and programs for the development of Metro Cebu. — (FREEMAN)
