Nacario assumes as new Naga police chief

CEBU, Philippines - Police Superintendent Brindo H. Nacario took over as Naga City's new police chief, replacing superintendent Eduardo Y. Saavedra in a simple turnover ceremony held at the City Multi-Purpose Hall yesterday morning.

With the assumption of a new city police director, Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong pushes for a system similar to a help desk that would make the local police force accessible to civilians who are in dire need of PNP assistance.

"Kung dunay moduol nga civilians, dapat inyo gyud nang tagdon. You must go out of your way and see to it that they are attended to," Chiong said, as he called for the police to be more attentive and to stick to its ideal of providing high-quality and community-oriented service to the public.

In response to the challenge of Chiong, the newly-installed police chief mentioned two important missions that will serve as his guide during his incumbency.

Nacario's mission in his two year stint will include reduction of street crimes and arrest of wanted persons, as well as tapping of stakeholders in combating crimes.

"Let us ensure that Naga is a peaceful place to live and work in and do business with," Nacario said.

Supt. Renato Malazarte, Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) deputy chief for operations, reminded the members of the local police to maintain their dignity and integrity in the service.

Malazarte, a former police station chief of Naga, was at the ceremony to represent City Police Director Noel A. Gillamac at the turnover rites.  (FREEMAN)
