Drunk man stabs dead OFW nephew

CEBU, Philippines - A 35-year-old Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) died while on his way to the hospital after he was allegedly stabbed by his drunk uncle Wednesday evening in Sitio Hilltop, Barangay Lagtang, Talisay City.

The police identified the victim as Oliver Castañares, resident of the place. He sustained stabbed wounds on the left and middle part of his chest and died while on his way to the Talisay City District Hospital.

Sixto Sayson, Jr., 62, also a resident of the place, was arrested during the hot pursuit operation by the city police after he was tagged as the suspect in stabbing the OFW.

The police filed murder case against Sayson before the City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday afternoon.

PO2 Edwin Campomanes who was one of the responding officers told The Freeman that before the incident happened,Sayson who was drunk at that time threw stones to the house of the Castañares.

According to Campones, Sayson would allegedly look for a fight with the victim, while also figured in troubles with other neighbors when get drank.

Castañares went out of their house to confront his uncle but allegedly the suspect thrust a knife to his nephew’s chest.

The police recovered from the possession of the Sayson a 16 inches double-blade knife allegedly used to stab the victim.

PO2 Campomanessaid the victim is an OFW and scheduled to work back abroad next month.  (FREEMAN)
