BFAR to donate patrol boat to Talisay

CEBU, Philippines - The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is set to turnover a patrol boat to the Talisay City government.

BFAR knows the boat will be used for the conservation, protection, and rehabilitation of the environment and natural resources.

Councilors Richard Francis F. Aznar and Antonio D. Bacaltos Jr. hope that with the motorized vessel, illegal fishing will be minimized.

The city council has approved a proposed resolution which authorizes Mayor Johnny V. de los Reyes to represent the city in accepting the donation.

A resolution from the Sangguniang Panlungsod is required before the mayor can sign a memorandum of agreement with the BFAR for the transfer of ownership and possession of the patrol boat.

Meanwhile, the city council has also asked Mayor De los Reyes to provide the “FISECA,” or the Bantay Dagat Task Force, a uniform to be easily recognized by the public as members of the “FISECA.”

The task force is a civilian fisheries patrol made up of volunteers that keep a 24-hour watch of territorial waters.

FISECA is responsible for the care as well as protection of coastal waters.  (FREEMAN)
