Resident demands to be recompensed

CEBU, Philippines - A resident of barangay Lagtang, Talisay City has asked city Councilor Danny Caballero to help her compel a construction firm to repair her house damaged by a rock that rolled down from where a road at the time was being widened by the company.

Adelina Cabuenas, of sitio Loyungan, barangay Lagtang went to Caballero's office at city hall to get a certification on the damage of her house and to relate her story that involves the contractor QM Builder.

The road widening project that stretches from Talisay to Toledo City is under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the contractor is QM Builder.

Cabuenas told reporters that last August 2013, a rock rolled down on her house from a road being widened by QM Builder.

Five other residences at the same place where Cabuenas lives were also damaged.

It was agreed that QM Builder will answer any damage caused by the project.

But Cabuenas said QM Builder allegedly refused to replace the floor mat from her living room to the kitchen.

She said she had asked to talk with the manager of the construction company but was told that the manager could not meet her because he was not feeling well.

Caballero's office issued Cabuenas a certification and attached to it was a picture of her damaged house.

On the other hand, Willy Abatayo of QM Builder said the company will shoulder all expenses.

But Abatayo said Cabuenas had asked the company to build her a dirty kitchen, which Cabuenas did not have when the accident happened.

He said when a rock hit Cabuenas' house, there was no dirty kitchen then.

Abatayo said the company cannot give in to all the demands.

He said an inspection of the house will be made to confirm that the house had no dirty kitchen before the accident occurred.  (FREEMAN)
