CEBU, Philippines - The Mandaue City council has approved a proposed ordinance which grants P5,000 in financial assistance to legitimate stall vendors at the Mandaue City public market who were displaced following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake last October 15.
Councilor Jimmy Lumapas, chairman of the committee on market and abattoir who authored the ordinance said he came up with the ordinance to help vendors recover from their losses.
Lumapas said the local finance board, chaired by city treasurer Regal Olive, formulated the guidelines and came up with the financial assistance.
Market administrator Musoline Sulliva said there are about 1,300 legitimate stall holders.
Legitimate market vendors were only able to sell back after two weeks after the earthquake struck. — (FREEMAN)
