CEBU, Philippines - Senior citizens in Mandaue City will receive their remaining financial assistance before Christmas Day.
Councilor Nenita Layese, chairman of the committee on rules and ordinances, revealed this during the half-day “Post Evaluation†activity of the Federation of Senior Citizens of Mandaue City, Phils, Inc. held at the SDC, City Social Welfare and Services (CSWS) compound.
Layese said efforts will be exerted to ensure that the P1,000 in financial assistance will be released by December 9.
The city government has appropriated a budget for the P2,000 annual financial assistance to the sector, half of which was released already middle of this year.
Layese who also chairs the committee on good governance said increasing the financial assistance might be considered next year.
More than 10,000 senior citizens that are organized in all 27 barangays in the city.
Mayor Jonas Cortes in his message read by Councilor Diosdado Suico acknowledged the contributions of the sector in the development of the city.
Aside from the 50 percent discount given to the sector if hospitalized in the city hospital, they also can avail of the mortuary program, “lakbay aral†program, and the gateball games facility at the Mandaue Bridge Park, among others.
“We are grateful to the administration of Mayor Cortes for attending to our welfare and we will continue to contribute for the development of the city,†said Bienvenido Gahi, president of the federation. (MNS) (FREEMAN)
