Quisumbing vows more aid for typhoon victims

CEBU, Philippines - Sixth district representative Luis Gabriel Quisumbing has assured Cebuanos of enough budget to address the extent of damage brought about by calamities.

Quisumbing’s assurance came after the committee on appropriations in Congress approved last November 27 House No. 3423 appropriating a P14.6 billion supplemental budget for calamity stricken regions.

Last November 27, the committee on appropriations heard several measures relating to the supplemental appropriations in the budget and the immediate release of funds for aid, relief, rehabilitation, and support to calamity stricken areas.

The supplemental budget will be heard for the second and final reading on congress next week so it could immediately be forwarded to the senate for its approval.

“I am happy that this supplemental budget was passed immediately and with overwhelming support. It shows our commitment to reconstruct the  Visayas.”

Quisumbing’s chief of staff lawyer Jocelia Bighani said the congressman is in a good position to help address the extent of damage brought about by the two calamities.

He currently is the vice president of the committee on appropriations and is a representative from the Visayas.

“He definitely pushed for funds for the district and the province,” Bighani said.  (FREEMAN)
