Talisay abattoir ups collection

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City Livestock and Poultry Processing Plant, which operates the new slaughterhouse, has recorded an increase in collection with P1.4 million this year as compared to P400,000 last year.

City Councilor Danilo Caballero, who is the chairman of the committee on market and slaughterhouse, said the comparative collection report for last year shows that there was an increase especially with the deployment of meat inspectors.

Caballero said the city is earning P30,000 to P40,000 for every 60 slaughtered cattle per day.

The slaughtering of cattle was stopped in 2009 because of the abattoir’s failure to meet the standards set by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).

Abattoir management claimed it allowed third party investors to use the facility which provided their own slaughterers who did not comply with the required slaughterhouse sanitary regulations.

Caballero said slaughterhouse rules and guidelines should strictly be followed.

Abattoir management said all employees, particularly slaughterers, who are to be sent to the abattoir should have undergone training.

Caballero said this development will be of great help in realizing the city’s priority programs and projects to improve delivery of basic social services.   (FREEMAN)
