Women’s sector a priority in Lapu-Lapu

CEBU, Philippines - Women’s organizations in Lapu-Lapu City will remain a priority of the city government, said Mayor Paz Radaza yesterday.

But Radaza emphasized that those who want to avail of financial assistance from the city must comply all necessary requirements to prove they are a genuine organization.

Jaime L. Glomar, Officer-in-Charge of the Lapu-Lapu City Cooperative and Livelihood Resource Center (LCLRC), said Radaza has directed him to closely supervise all cooperatives in the city. Glomar said the center is also assisting the cooperatives comply with the requirements to avoid problems in the future.

Glomar said Radaza is very supportive of the needs of cooperatives like the Kababayen-an Federation. The group has 13,774 members and has a total combined assets of over P5 million.

“Priority ni Mayor Radaza ang kababayen-an and she tasked me to lead the office. I believe that women are one of the sectors that need help,” Glomar said.

Glomar said many have joined the cooperative after learning that it has the support of the city government. –JMO (FREEMAN)
