CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Aldin Diaz has withdrawn his resolution which seeks funds from the city government for a scholarship program because it mimics the scholarship program the Alay Lakad Foundation offers.
On the other hand, Councilor Dennis Basillote, who is the chairman of the committee on education, would like to know how much Alay Lakad has in its coffers before he starts soliciting more funds for it.
Basillote has asked for P250,000 from first district Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam†Gullas, P250,000 from Governor Hillario Davide III, and another P250,000 from Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes.
The fund raised by the Alay Lakad is spent on tuition of the foundation’s scholars.
Basillote said the foundation pays P3,000 every semester to the Talisay City State College for each of its 503 scholars. – (FREEMAN)
