CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government can earn close to P5 million annually from the abattoir if it can get an accreditation to slaughter cattle again.
City Councilor Danilo Caballero, who is the chairman of the committee on market and slaughterhouse, wants to see cattle slaughtered in the abattoir once more.
“The city will earn P30,000 to P40,000 for every 60 slaughtered cattle per day,†Caballero said, adding that the city will earn not less than P4 million annually.
According to the Public Information Office-Talisay City, cattle slaughtering was stopped in 2009 for the abattoir’s failure to meet the standards set by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS).
Abattoir management claimed it allowed third party investors to use the facility and provided their own slaughterers who did not comply with the required slaughterhouse sanitary regulations.
But Caballero said he would meet with the investors who still wish to continue using the slaughterhouse but this time he would make sure that slaughterhouse rules and guidelines should strictly be followed.
Abattoir management said all employees, particularly slaughterers, who are to be sent to the abattoir should have undergone training. (FREEMAN)
