House leaders, Quisumbing present proposed nat’l budget

CEBU, Philippines - Sixth district representative Luis Gabriel Quisumbing joined the other day House leaders in the presentation of the proposed 2014 National budget.

Quisumbing, who is also the vice chairman of the House committee on appropriation joined House Speaker Sonny Belmonte Jr. and House committee on appropriation chairman Isidro Ungab in the turn-over ceremony of the proposed P2.268 trillion national budget for 2014 to Congress.

Quisumbing said the proposed 2014 national budget is 13.1 percent or about P262 billion higher than the 2013 budget wherein it aims to promote inclusive growth that will increase the opportunities for the poor.

He said key expenditures for the proposed 2014 budget includes poverty reduction and empowerment of the poor, good governance and anti-corruption, just and lasting peace and the rule of the law, integrity of the environment and climate change adaptation and mitigation, and rapid,inclusive, and sustained economic group.

“We might start budget discussions as early as the first week of August. Speaker Sonny Belmonte has indicated that he wants to maintain our good track record in passing the national budget on time,” Quisumbing said. (FREEMAN)
