Senator-elect Cayetano allots P3 million for indigent patients

CEBU, Philippines - For emerging number one in Cebu province and the whole Central Visayas in the May 13 elections, Senator-elect Alan Peter Cayetano assured  he will allot another P3 million from his Priority Development Assistance Fund for patients of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and another P1.5 million for patients admitted of the Eversly Child Sanitarium Hospital.

Rey Martinez, staff of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and convenor of the Compañero Cayetano Tabang Volunteers, said the amounts will be deposited directly to the two hospitals.

“Nalipay kaayo si Senator Alan Peter Cayetano nga gisuportahan sa mga Sugbuanon ug tibuok Central Visayas ug gihimo gayud siya nga number one mao nga bugtian niya kini sa padayon nga serbisyo,” Martinez said.

Martinez said Senator Cayetano started the medical assistance in Cebu in August 2011.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and his sister Senator Pia Cayetano earlier allocated P5 million for VSMMC patients.

Both senators signed a memorandum of agreement with the VSMMC to provide medical assistance for indigent patients who seek treatment at the government-owned hospital.

Martinez said with the new allocation, some changes have been made in such a way that patients can use the assistance not only for medicines but also for billing.

The money will be released next month after the Senate resumes.

Every patient admitted at the government-run hospital will receive P1,000 and up to P2,500 as medical referral from the office of Cayetano through Martinez.

Residents from different cities and municipalities in Cebu and even from Bohol and Negros Oriental can avail of the program.

The Cebu provincial board has adopted a resolution expressing its gratitude to the Cayetanos for the medical assistance.  (FREEMAN)
