Soc reminds cockpit of breach of contract

CEBU, Philippines - The New Talisay Sports Complex has been prevented from holding cockfights outside the agreed upon schedule.

Mayor Socrates Fernandez said he has issued a cease order to the management of the New Talisay Sports Complex based on the complaint filed by Sugarland Arena Cockpit.

Sugarland Arena cockpit, through its lawyer Raul Bacaltos, said Sugarland holds its regular cockfights and derbies during Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and added that the New Talisay Sports Complex management also holds cockfight on Saturdays when it is not allowed under an agreement signed in 1997.

The New Talisay Sports Complex also holds regular cockfights Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

Fernandez said the management has somewhat committed a violation in conducting cockfights that are outside the schedule.

“The undersigned executed this order to stop or cease this somewhat violation of the agreement between you and the Sugarland,” Fernandez said in his order.

The Sugarland Arena Cockpit was established by an ordinance in the early 1996.

According to Bacaltos, the actuation of the sports complex in holding cockfights on Saturdays is not fair to Sugarland.  (FREEMAN)
