CEBU, Philippines - Preparations are underway for the annual celebration of the "Sugat sa Minglanilla," one of the highlights of the town's celebration of "Kabanhawan Festival."
Organizers said they expect more devotees and spectators to attend the annual celebration, which is the portrayal of the resurrection of Christ that has been widely supported by the public for years due to its grand presentation.
Chief Insp. Timmar Alam, Minglanilla police chief, expects a large crowd.
Operatives of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) will focus on the southern town because they've had a problem there with crowd control.
Last year, the CPPO established 103 public assistance centers in strategic areas such as piers, churches, tourist spots, among others.
Police personnel will be detailed in transport terminals and religious sites where people are expected to flock for the religious activities.
Police will also be on the lookout for petty thieves, who will take advantage of the huge crowd. (FREEMAN)
