CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Justice has released P5 million to the Naga City government for the construction of a Hall of Justice.
Naga Mayor Valdemar Chiong said the building will house the offices of the Regional Trial Court.
Chiong said there is a great need for a suitable and separate edifice for a more dignified location for all offices directly concerned and involved with the justice system.
The lot, which will be occupied by the Hall of Justice has 240-square meters for the edifice.
The DOJ would set aside an amount under the President’s Justice System Infrastructure Program and will provide the city with the complete architectural and engineering plans.
Earlier, President Benigno Aquino III signed into law a bill authored by first district Rep. Eduardo Gullas that sought to create additional branches for the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in the cities of Naga and Carcar in a bid to unclog court dockets in the province and speed up the dispensation of justice.
Republic Act No. 10348 was approved by Congress on July 2 last year. It was signed into law by Aquino last December. (FREEMAN)
