“Barangay Assembly” to be held March 23

CEBU, Philippines - The “Barangay Assembly” for the first semester of Calendar Year 2013 will be held on March 23, Association of Barangay Council president and Barangay Dumlog captain Charles Basillote said.

He said the assembly promotes good governance, transparency, accountability, and responsiveness.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), urges barangay officials to hold a “Barangay Assembly” in their respective areas on the very day pursuant to Proclamation No. 260 dated September 30, 2011 issued by President Benigno S. Aquino III and DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2012-156 dated Sept. 18, 2012.

The primary objective of the event is for barangay officials and residents to have dialogue on the different issues and concerns affecting the barangay such as peace and order, disaster preparedness, solid waste management and clean-up activities.

Basillote said barangay officials will present the State of Barangay Address (SOBA) with emphasis on CY 2012 second semester accomplishments, financial reports, and updates on CY 2012 second semester ongoing programs.

The DILG calls on barangay residents to actively involve and participate in the barangay assembly to allow them to propose innovations and measures which will contribute to the attainment of good governance in their respective barangays.  (FREEMAN)
