Police arrest murder suspect

CEBU, Philippines -  A man who was accused of killing his sister and injuring another in Manila was arrested by the Intelligence Branch of the Cebu City Police Office early morning yesterday in Sitio Lawis, barangay Pasil, Cebu City.

Jorge “Jek-Jek” Vistal, 40, allegedly had eluded arrest in Sampaloc, Manila and hid in barangay Pasil, Cebu City.

Seized from him was a loaded .22 cal. revolver.

Jorge resisted arrest but was overpowered by the policemen.

He is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office stockade.

Cebu City Police Office director Sr. Supt. Mariano Natu-el Jr. said Vistal stabbed dead his sister, Efrenita Vistal, 53, and injured Efrenita’s mother-in-law, Marifiel Lopeno with an ice pick.

Jorge was reportedly under the influence of liquor when he committed the crime.

Due to serious wounds, Efrenita was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Jorge reportedly came home on that day at around 6:30 in the morning and caught Efrenita and Lopeno talking to each other.

Jorge admitted he thought the two women were talking behind his back.

“Hubog ko ato unya naglagot na pud ko daan kay sige man ko’g yawyawan niya (Efrenita). Nagmahay ko pero wala nakoy nahimo,” Jorge said. (FREEMAN)
