Pawnshop owners gypped

CEBU, Philippines - A Greek national and his Filipino wife who operate a pawnshop have discovered after an inventory that P330,000 worth of pieces of jewelry they have accepted as security in exchange for a loan of money are fake.

Nikolaos and Meralyn Midaos, who own Santorini Pawnshop and Money Changer in barangay Guizo, went to the police the other day.

It was learned that transactions involving the fake jewelry took place from October to December last year when Nikolaos took over his wife’s functions at the pawnshop.

During this period, his wife was in Bohol to attend to their other businesses.

Nikolai cannot tell a genuine one from a fake one.

From the Rogues Gallery, the couple pointed to a picture of someone they are certain was one of those who had pawned the fake jewelry.
