CEBU, Philippines — After several years of planning, a non-licensed football coach will no longer be allowed to call the shots for a team in any tournaments here starting with the Aboitiz Cup set to kick off on July 28 at the Cebu City Sports Center.
This was agreed upon by the organizing Central Visayas Football Association and the clubs and teams that have already signified their intent to join the Aboitiz Cup, according to CVFA president Engr. Rodney Orale.
The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has been calling the attention of the different FAs several times in the past already regarding this matter including the now defunct Cebu Football Association (CFA), but it took some time for Cebu’s FA to implement it as only a few coaches in this side of the country have license.
From certificates, PFF is now offering a diploma course for coaches and made it accessible to the local coaches.
Last weekend, a total of 25 coaches got their PFF C diploma after two weeks of studying and training at the Cebu International School.
Out of the new licensed coaches, 18 are from Cebu, one from Bohol, three from Manila, one from Batangas and one from Thailand and Singapore.
Several other Cebuanos are already licensed coaches.
There are three types of licenses - A, B and C.
But regardless of what license they possess, one is allowed to lead a team in the Aboitiz Cup as long as he or she has a license.
Having a licensed coach ensures that they have the technical know-how in handling the players and the game, dealing it in a more professional manner. It also guarantees the coach of a better compensation package from the teams they are serving. (FREEMAN)
