CEBU, Philippines - The University of the Visayas Baby Lancers laid down a steady offensive in the middle quarters to smother the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Baby Panthers, 85-73, in the 16th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men's basketball tournament last night at the Cebu Coliseum.
Aside from leaping to solo third place in the juniors division with an improved 5-2 win-loss record, the Baby Lancers also kept their top 2 bid alive where an automatic semifinal berth is at stake.
However, the UV bantams could only achieve that if they sweep their remaining two games against the Southwestern University-Phinma Baby Cobras and the University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars, then hope and pray that the Don Bosco Technology Center Greywolves will lose to the University of Cebu Junior Webmasters tomorrow.
Jancork Cabahug charted 15 points on top of nine rebounds and three assists, while John Luis Escobar had a solid double-double show of 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Baby Lancers, who gamely shrugged off an ice-cold start on the way to post a 43-33 advantage at halftime on a buzzer-beating trey by Jhiey Pacaldo.

Unfortunately, UV's Joshua Yerro was thrown out of the game after being assessed with his second unsportsmanlike foul at the final 2:35 mark of the contest. Aside from an automatic one-game suspension and a P5,000 fine, he must also render a four-hour community service under the supervision of the Cebu City Sports Commission before he will be allowed to play again.
