USC tankers start strong in Cebu City Olympics

CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Carlos made a big splash in the swimming event of the 2015 Cebu City Olympics at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.

Gil Anton Talisaysay led USC’s charge with two gold medals in the secondary boys 400m freestyle with five minutes and 13 seconds and in the 200m butterfly with 2:48 clocking.

In the elementary level, USC nabbed four golds through Luke Santos, Caroline and Laraline Doloricon, and Helena Jula Rabanes.

USC was also unopposed in the secondary boys 4x50-meter medley relay plus four silvers and three bronzes combined in both levels.

Bright Academy also looked good with three gold medals with Jehaosh Reign Garrido delivering a double gold while her sister Justine got one as teammate Isabella Dieal ended with a silver medal.

The University of Cebu secured two golds, three silvers and two bronzes. Karen Indaya delivered the gold while their secondary relay team also won the 4x5m medley relay.

Paref-Springdale also made its presence felt with a gold by Christante Veloso who had an impressive performance with 1:06.5 in the secondary boys 100-m backstroke. Edouard Andrew Ybanez got a silver while sister school South crest settled for a bronze courtesy of Patrice Tiffany Jacalan.

Cebu Eastern College's Lyh Ann Navarro stole some spotlight after winning a gold in the 200-m butterfly.

Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Jesus got two bronzes from Russel So and Aaliyah Ricci Mataragnon. Maria Montessori International School also got a gold medal in the relay event as Harvest School collected four bronzes while Unit- 7 has one gold. (FREEMAN)
