CEBU, Philippines – Southwestern University’s men and women squads got a chance to retain their titles in their respective divisions after moving up into the finals of the Cebu Schools Athletics Foundation Inc. volleyball event at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation gym yesterday.
Even if they lost their final match against the University of San Jose Recoletos, 28-26, 22-25, 25-11, 25-21, the Lady Cobras still advanced to the finals after finishing the semis with six points.
USJ-R claimed the top spot with seven points as University of San Carlos fell to third place with four points.
USC had a hard-earned win against host USPF, 16-25, 25-20, 25-16, 22-25, 15-13.
For their part, SWU men’s team got the finals berth after upending USJ-R, 25-23, 18-25, 25-20, 25-22. SWU will face USC in a ‘best-of-three’ championship series.
USC also dominated USPF, 20-25, 27-29, 25-14, 25-15, 15-12.
Earlier, SWU girls also made it to the championship round against Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu via tie-breaker points with USJ-R, meanwhile USJ-R will take on USC in the boys final.
The championship round begins on October 17 at the USC main gymnasium. (FREEMAN)
