SHS-AdC girls keep title bid alive

CEBU, Philippines – Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu girls bolstered their title bid with a crucial victory over Southwestern University in the semifinal round of the volleyball event of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. at the University of San Jose-Recoletos gym yesterday.

SHS-AdC’s scored an 18-25, 25-10, 25-21 victory that put early favorite SWU in a dangerous situation with their chance of advancing to the final round remained uncertain.

After losing against USJR, Sacred Heart was unstoppable against SWU with team captain Rosdine Torre leading the charge.

Down by seven points at the end of the first set, SHS-AdC came back strong in the second set. Angelyna Canieso and Danielle Malazarte also provided spark for Sacred Heart in the third set to seal the victory.

With the win, SHS-AdC and SWU are now tied at 1-1 win-loss card while USJ-R has 2-0 as USC still winless in two games. USJ-R got its second victory by silencing USC, 25-20, 25-18.

The final semifinal game in the secondary girls will have SHS-AdC against the winless USC while SWU will have tough task against USJ-R.

In the women's division, the SWU Lady Cobras claimed an easy 25-12, 25-10, 25-21 victory against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation at the start of the semifinal round.
