National duathlon championships at SRP today

CEBU, Philippines - The country's most seasoned duathletes are raring to show to the Cebuanos and the rest what they are made of as the Cebu Duathlon National Championships gets underway today near Lantaw at the South Road Properties.

Asian Beach Games bronze medallist Robeno Javier, World Games veteran Carlo Pedregosa, and the likes of Jarwyn Banatao, Robinson Esteves and Jeric Buhian lead the cast of top contenders in the race.

The other entries to watch out for are national triathletes John Rambo Chicano and Deo Timbol, Benjamin Rana and Cebu's very own Philip Duenas, who is considered a darkhorse because of his reputation as a fast runner and a good biker.

Aside from the elite category, several age-groups that drew close to 200 entries will also be contested in the race that features a standard distance, sprint, and youth mini sprint. There will also be an inter-club event.

Each club may field in as many teams, each shall be composed of at least 10 members with one female.

The winners will be based on the aggregate time of their best three male and top female finisher under the standard distance.

Current members of the national team are not allowed in the inter-club battle.

The organizers are setting aside P60,000 in cash prize for the top performers.— (FREEMAN)
