CEBU, Philippines - The fourth-ranked University of San Jose-Recoletos Baby Jaguars and the fifth seed University of the Visayas Baby Lancers will settle their unfinished business once and for all as they figure in a sudden-death duel for the last semifinal berth in the juniors division of the 15th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. men's basketball tournament today at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Baby Jaguars are actually armed with a twice-to-beat incentive, but the Jancork Cabahug-led Baby Lancers lived and fight for another day after pulling off a decisive 68-44 win during their previous encounter last September 10.
The winner of their do-or-die duel scheduled at 1 p.m. will be joining the topseed Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles, University of San Carlos Baby Warriors, and the University of Cebu Juniors Webmasters in the semifinal stage that will start on Tuesday.
In the collegiate division, the UV Lancers and the Southwestern University Cobras, sporting an identical 7-2 win-loss records, will try to stay at joint second place when they take on separate rivals.
The Lancers will clash with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers at 2:30 p.m., while the Cobras will go up against the USJ-R Jaguars in the main game at 5:30 p.m.
In between the matches featuring the Lancers and the Cobras, the UC Webmasters hope to improve their 3-5 slate as they collide against the 3-6 Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats at 4 p.m. (FREEMAN)
