Orione nips Clifford, Srugi overcomes Greywolves

CEBU, Philippines - Jules Asignar played hot all throughout the game and further exploded with 11 of his 28 points in the final quarter as Team St. Louis Orione gradually broke the backs of Team Fr. John Peter Clifford, 71-55, in the ongoing Don Bosco @ 200 Basketball Tournament last Sunday night.

Asignar and Stanley Aguirre took command at the start of the game, similarly scoring five points in the first quarter and six in the second quarter that gave Orione an 11-point advantage at the half, 29-18.

As Orione applied full-court press against Clifford in the second quarter, the former limited the latter to produce just half than it did as Britz Boncalon shot a trey and converted a free shot at Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC).

Orione did it again final canto allowing Clifford to produce barely over a fourth that its production with playing team manager Klein Baladya scoring a triple as he took charge of the defense that he got fouled out with a minute left in the game.

Rey Lepardo led Clifford’s lost cause with his relatively well-spread production game-wide but got little help from his teammates in both scoring and containing Orione’s shooters.

Meanwhile, Team Simon Srugi got nearly overthrown by the all-teen passarelle squad of Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) Greywolves in escaping with a 84-78 decision.

Renz  Orozco led the charge for the Greywolves with 20 points, backed by Elrich Zulueta and Ivan  Abella who scored 10 and nine, and shook for a while the knees of their elder alumni brothers who started with only three players.

Dennis Christopher Morales led the scoring for Srugi as Oliver Pingoy pitched in 15 while Lawrence Harold Castro and Joirene Salcedo added 14 each, as they nonetheless gave their understream more valuable experience on the hardcourt. (PR)
