Richport rules inaugural CEI caging

CEBU, Philippines - Richport Trading outlasted the Doggie Warriors in double overtime,110-101, to snatch the inaugural championship of the Camay-Espinoza, International (CEI) Barkadahan Cup basketball tournament last Tuesday night at the Barangay Tinago gym.

Victory was actually in sight for the Doggie Warriors as they had an 89-88 edge with only 7.8 seconds left in the first extension.However, Doggies’ Gani Mabangue committed an ill-advise foul against Richport’s Jojo Solitario with no time left.

After missing his first attempt, Solitario coolly sank the second one, thus, the second overtime.

The regulation ended at 75-all as Carlo Bantulay of the Doggie Warriors forced an extra five-minute period also after splitting his charities in the final 3.6 seconds incidentally on Solitario's costly foul.

Solitario, who bagged the MVP honors, churned out 32 points as Richport clinched the title anchored on an amazing10-game winning streak.

Tata Laborte chipped in 17 points for Ricport, Glenn Resohinto and playing coach Bokoy Malalay scored 16 and 14,respectively, while Chris Fernandez added 13 markers underscoring their balanced offensive.

Christian Deganio topscored for Doggie Warriors with 27 points followed by Carlo Bantulay with 19. Jeff Villarin and Ronron Bantulay connived for 27 points in a losing effort.
