CEBU, Philippines – Sandra Sollano couldn't afford to lose the crown again as she pushed herself hard en route to winning his first All-Women's Ultra-marathon title yesterday at the D' Family Park in Brgy.Talamban, this city.
Sollano was a runner-up to Mereeiz Ramirez last year, but this time she finally snared the title after a hard-fought battle against Preciosa Sanchez whom she but by just milliseconds. She finished the lung busting 50K race in five hours, one minute and a second clocking as the latter has 5:01:01.280 clocking.
The 38-year-old front desk clerk have had her shining moments in running the past few years, but this year's victory tops them all.
Although this was not her first ultra-marathon, Sollano couldn't tell of her chances at first this year since organizers have designed a new route.
Another seasoned ultra-marathoner, Rhoda Oporto settled for third with 5:05:08 clocking.
Rounding up the top 10 cast of the all-female action were Jade Abellana (5:08:55), Wilma Theresa Lugay (5:12:40), Daisy Batac (5:22:36), Ramirez (5:24:01) Virginia Parajenog ( 5:25:14), Marecor Baclay (5:26:49) and Sheila Aligway (5:30:42).
