CEBU, Philippines – Cebuano speed demon Vince Adrian Rojo shone the brighest star among the stars of the 2014 Kartzone Superkart Series who were feted for their outstanding performances during the awards night of the annual race over the weekend at Harold's Hotel.
Aside from emerging as overall champion in the KT expert category with an unassailable 444 points after the seven-leg series, Rojo also romped off with the coveted 'Karter of the Year' award.
A two-time KT novice champion, Rojo moved up to the expert division only last year and he clinched the championship right on his maiden voyage as an expert.
Rojo was joined in the spotlight by the other category champions. They were Rei Aleman in the KT masters with 223 points, Jarond Mesina in the KT novice with 425 points, Frederick Cortes in the Honda expert with 385 points, Norris See in the Honda novice with 448 points, and Keon Romoff in the SQ cadet with 400 points.
Interestingly, The Freeman Motoring editor Lord Seno finished a close second to Cortes in the Honda expert with 367 points, while TF columnist Kym Limgenco placed third with 298 points.
In the Autocross Solo race, Mark Paray claimed two championship titles to come out as the 'Driver of the Year.' His closest pursuers for the sought-after trophy were Jess Garcia and Jong King who settled for second and third, respectively.
Paray, who was driving a Honda NSX whose design was a collaboration with Honda and the legendary Ayrton Senna, topped the open category with 47 points and the modified heavy expert with 55 points. He also had a runner-up finish in the modified light expert, conceding the title by just a point to Jong King.
Dan Davino and Sven Serafica stole part of the limelight with a golden treble each. Savino lorded it over in the modified light novice with 50 points, the superstreet light novice with 35 points and the modified heavy novice with 55 points, while Serafica dominated the superstreet heavy novice with 30 points, and the street light novice and the street heavy novice both with 52 points.
