CEBU, Philippines – Paolo Alberto and Kenneth Cue banked on consistency to bag the overall title of the 14th Island Tee at the Mactan Island Golf Club in Lapu-Lapu City over the weekend.
The big story of the tournament, however, took place late Saturday afternoon when Alejandro ‘Jun’ Dayot III nailed an ace on hole No. 15, which features an island green and is deemed as the club’s signature hole.
With most players struggling on the very dry conditions, Alberto and Cue combined for rounds of 75 and 73 points for a total of 148 in the four-day, 36-hole event that used the Modified Stableford Scoring System. Players were only allowed to use three-fourths of their current handicap.
The Island Tee is the annual member-guest tournament of the club that is located inside the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base.
Dayot used a Mizuno 4-iron and a Titleist ProV1 ball for the hole-in-one scored from 170 yards. The feat was witnessed by Noel Abad and Andrew Ahn.
For scoring that ace, Dayot won a Hyundai Accent from Hyundai Cebu, P100,000 worth of free bet coupons from Pagcor, a Sunriser motorcycle from Norkis Trading, and the cash fund for the club’s hole-in-one special.
The lowest individual gross score plum went to Jun-jun Cabajar, who fired rounds of 72 and 71 strokes. Pio Barandog bagged the lowest net honors with his two-day total of 83 points off rounds of 41 and 43.
